Type: Historic House / Palace

An historic city mansion with a unique atmosphere and links to Charles II, Samuel Pepys and Charles Dickens.

Restoration House as we see it today is the amalgamation of two medieval buildings which were combined in the late 16th or early 17th century to create a mansion house just outside the south east corner of the city wall of Rochester.

There are beautiful interiors with early paintwork, fine furniture and pictures including works by Kneller, Dahl, Reynolds and Gainsborough.

The charming interlinked walled gardens are in classic English style with herbaceous borders, box parterre, a vegetable garden and a meadow. The garden is maintained to the utmost and continues to be developed by a dedicated team of gardeners and craftsmen.
