Guide to ratings

Photo of Visit Britain star rating logoWhen looking for that special place to stay, you need a rating system you can trust.

Medway Council will only promote accommodation providers which have been rated under VisitBritain's National Quality Assurance Standards or the Automobile Association (AA).

Wherever you see the Enjoy England Quality Rose, or AA sign, this means the accommodation has been inspected and rated.

Guide to star ratings

All accommodation is now rated nationally by stars and in some cases, if a particular establishment exceeds the expectations within the rating level, it will also be awarded a 'Silver' or 'Gold' award.

The stars are nationally rated 1 to 5, so for a hotel awarded 3 stars the rating will be 3* Hotel and for a guest accommodation/B&B with 4 stars (and possibly an award if they exceed the expectations), the rating will be 4* Gold Award B&B.

We want you to get the most out of your stay, so to help you choose the accommodation you want, here’s a summary of the star rating system made easy:Photo of AA star rating logo

1 star  – simple, practical, no frills
2 stars – well-presented or well-run
3 stars – good level of quality and comfort
4 stars – excellent standard throughout
5 stars – exceptional with a degree of luxury

Gold & Silver Awards

Silver - this award recognises high quality in all areas of the business, with very good levels of customer care.

Gold - properties achieving a Gold award will demonstrate exceptional levels of quality, comfort, cleanliness, hospitality and attentive service.
