Through paintings, constructed works, prints and artist’s books, Ian Bottle explores ideas about time, memory and place.
His methods are influenced by what he sees as the the challenges presented in processing the information we are continually confronted with. Ian’s work is informed by drawings and photographs that explore patterns within our seeing, thinking and doing, simultaneously building up and breaking down an image or sculptural form until a coherent structure emerges. The title of the show, ‘OVER LAP’ refers to this process and the potential for disruption to reveal moments of insight.
Ian completed his MA in painting at Chelsea School of Art after studying to BA at Newcastle Polytechnic. Originally from Kent, he returned to the coast to set up a studio and work as a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art in the School of Further Education at University for the Creative Arts in Canterbury.
Ian has showed work throughout his career whilst participating in a variety of research projects that have continued to shape his practice including participating in exhibitions in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bristol, London, Rouen and Margate.
