Medway boasts a wealth of festivals throughout the year, celebrating Medway’s colourful past and exciting present.

The year starts off with the Chinese New Year celebrations in January, followed in April when Riverside Country Park becomes home to the English Festival, a family celebration of all things English.

A weekend not to be missed! Come along and witness our 40th Sweeps Festival in May. A colourful array of live folk music, dancing and entertainment with Morris sides and entertainers celebrating throughout the festival.

Dickens 150 in June will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of Charles Dickens with a series of events and activities taking place between the 10-14 June including the popular Rochester Dickens Festival and the opening of the new exciting gallery dedicated to the author at the Guildhall Museum.

Every July, the Medway Mile takes place where participants can walk, jog or run the one-mile route around the streets of Rochester and enjoy lots of activities taking place at the castle gardens in Rochester.

September brings the Will Adams 400, a festival to celebrate Japanese culture and arts, and pay tribute to the Elizabethan seafarer William Adams who was born in Gillingham.

And "remember, remember" November's spectacular Bonfire Night at The Great Lines Heritage Park.

We conclude the year with festive activities - starting with the Christmas lights switching on ceremonies at the town centres, pantomime at the Central Theatre, Christmas markets at Rochester Castle and Dickensian Christmas.
