Medway Visitor Information Centre


In line with government guidelines for the second national lockdown, the Visitor Information Centre is currently closed to the public. 

Unless further measures are announced, it will re-open when lockdown ends in line with the latest government guidelines, continuing to adhere to the stringent safety measures in place to keep visitors and staff safe.


No visit to Medway would be complete without making the Medway Visitor Information in Rochester High Street your first port of call. Our friendly team are ready and waiting to offer you local tourism advice, sell you theatre tickets and help you make the most of your visit.

The centre also includes a souvenir gift shop, ATM, toilets and a café, as well as an art gallery and the Hugenot Museum. Please see below for current service restrictions due to Covid-19.

Safety advice when visiting us  
In line with government advice the numbers of visitor entering the building is currently being restricted and visitors are advised to keep to the 1m social distancing at all times.

Staying Covid-19 secure the centre has carried out a full risk assessment and will for the time being be offering a limited over the counter service to our visitors.  For your safety, hand-sanitiser stations are provided at the entrance point and throughout the centre, Perspex screens fitted to the counter to protect our staff and visitors. Frontline staff are on hand at the centre on arrival to assist our customers.

Visitors will need to provide contacts details (name and phone number) to staff on entry as part of the Governments Test and Trace system.  These details will only be held for 21 days and will then be destroyed. Face coverings must also be worn on entry. Castle staff will also be wearing face masks for everyone's safety. 

The gift and souvenir shop has been completely redesigned, so as to create more space for browsing with one-way walking systems, plus additional signage advising visitors to not touch items unless purchasing and to maintain social distancing at all times.

The gift and souvenir shop will be accepting card and contactless payments only for purchases (no cash transactions), regional and local leaflets including Arriva bus timetables and town centre maps are available from the counter staff.  The Rochester Art gallery on the ground floor will also be open to the public and social distancing also applies for this area.

Unfortunately, for the time being a number of  services are currently not available at the centre. These include the Explore Life café, public conveniences, ATM cash withdrawals, Theatre Box Office and over the counter photocopying services. The Huguenot Museum on the first floor is currently closed, please visit their website for further details (www.huguenotmuseum.org).

Support Services for Visitors and Coach Groups

Coach Setting Down & Pick Up Point - Four dedicated coach bays are provided for coaches to drop off and collect their passengers.  These are located directly behind the Visitor Information Centre.  For details on this facility including usage and waiting restrictions click here.

Curtis Way Coach Park - A free parking facility for up to 15 coaches is available for visiting coaches at Curtis Way, Rochester.  For further information and location map, click here.

Chatham Waterfront Bus Station  - Arrangements are in place at the bus station for coaches visiting to visit Chatham town centre and the theatres.  For details and a map, please click here.

Car Parking - When visiting and looking for somewhere to park, Medway has several pay and display car parks in the area.  These car parks can be found at each town centre and additional parking can be found at shopping outlet centres.  To find a car park, visit www.medway.gov.uk

During major festivals and events, additional parking is provided by the council's events team. Information on park 'n' ride is published in the event programmes nearer the time.
