Based on the poem The Dream of Gerontius by John Henry Newman, the composer Edward Elgar composed this work for the Birmingham Festival in 1900.
Described as the greatest British work in the oratorio form, it relates the story of a soul’s journey through death.
This will be a very moving and passionate musical experience performed by 80 singers, with 28 musicians and three special guest soloists.
The 2025 film The Choral depicts a 1916 performance of The Dream of Gerontius by the fictitious Ramsden Choral Society.
We rate our conductor Adrian Bawtree even higher than Ralph Fiennes! Please join us for an exciting evening in the beautiful Rochester Cathedral.
